Welcome to one of the most incredible properties you will encounter in the middle of mountains, oceans, wildlife, peace and tranquility, yet minutes to both highway 17 and highway 1.
IN THE WORDS OF THE PROUD OWNER:
The View | First and foremost is the breath-taking view of the Soquel mountains and Monterey Bay. On a clear day (usually when the air is cool), you can actually see the whitecaps on the water of the Monterey Bay during the day, and the distant lights of Monterey beyond.
The Location | This home is only a ten minute drive to Hwy 17 by way of Vine Hill Rd, and a ten minute drive to Hwy 1 by way of Laurel Glenn, then Old San Jose Rd. You’re 15 minutes to the Capitola Beach, only 20 minutes to Los Gatos, and 30 minutes to the San Jose Airport. It’s the perfect location for commuting while living on top of the world, enjoying nature’s tranquility and the beautiful view.
Hiking Trails | Behind the property, there are 210 acres of landlocked paradise with hiking trails throughout. The trailhead is at the top of the road, where 900 and 906/908 driveways split. These hiking trails have been available for the residents of Sunset Lane for many years by a local family who own the property.
Decks and Patios | A brand-new $40,000 Redwood deck along the back of the house awaits you and guests with gorgeous views of the mountains and plenty of room for entertainment. Speaking of entertainment, the deck extends to the front left side of the house and around the pool. The slate patio next to the house, with it’s extended roof and elegant columns, provides outdoor living space with shade, immediate access to the pool and deck, and the view beyond. This patio was created in 2013, and has provided the perfect spot for entertaining, or to sit in the shade, feeling the breeze while reading a captivating book.
Gazebo | The enclosed gazebo provides space for an office, yoga or meditation room, or for any time when you wish to have quiet space away from the main house while basking in lovely views from each window.
“Oma’s Park” | We created this recreational space out of the mountain slope in 2006 for our grandkids to run and play. We’ve called this area “Oma’s Park.” Family and friends have even tent-camped in this area!
RV Parking | We also cut into the hill at the top of our driveway to create a space for additional parking. Four additional cars fit nicely here, or even a trailer or RV.
Stand-alone Deck | Across from the middle unit of the house and pergola is rock and drought-resistant landscaping, with a path that takes you to a quiet, stand-alone deck overlooking the view of the bay and mountain range.
Eagle’s Nest Patio | At the top of the driveway is a small, secluded perch. The red canopy provides shade to the stone patio. Here you have a birds-eye view of the home, pool and deck, mountains and the bay beyond. This is one of my most favorite spots!
Hardwood floors | These floors add to the beauty of the home. They are made from cherry wood. There are extra floorboards in the far corner of the garage.
Front door stained glass art | A stain glass artist from Germany created the stain glass that is in and around the front door. The old German masters trained him. You will see that he mastered those ancient techniques of stain glass artistry that is so rare to find today.
Recessed canned ceiling lights | All of the recessed ceiling lights throughout the house have been updated from incandescent to energy efficient LED. New smoke detectors and CO detectors are also in place.
Kitchen | A beautiful kitchen is ready for those wonderful dining experiences that you will have. This kitchen has expansive beautiful granite counters over freshly painted cabinets with brand new kitchen cabinet doors, and a new, never-been-used stainless steel gas stove and range hood. The dishwasher is also newer as it was purchased last November.
There’s also a lot of natural light from the windows and pyramid skylight.
Master bedroom/bathroom | The house originally had a fourth bedroom off of the dining room. In 2008, a major remodel was done that transformed the master bedroom, and turning the fourth bedroom into a spacious, elegant master bathroom. The corner propane fireplace in the large master bedroom adds romance as well as warmth. The walk-in closet and hidden jewelry storage behind the long mirror in the bedroom hallway provides space for that largest of wardrobes and accessories. The view from the sliding glass door and large windows overlooks the green mountain ranges beyond.
The “Middle Unit” | I’m so proud of our middle unit, between the laundry room and garages. This space was originally a three-car garage. It was converted into living space when having a 7-car garage was no longer needed, and extra living space made sense. A medium-size refrigerator designated for that living space was placed in the laundry room, between the stacked washer/dryer and the door into the main house. The soffit in that living room ceiling, as well as the recessed lights, is dimmable for mood effect. The white carpet in the bedroom has a special treatment that prevents staining as long as the carpet is gently rubbed with a damp white towel, and is only cleaned by professional carpet cleaners. This unit is very well insulated. It’s wired for surround sound. The forced air heating from the main house also goes into this unit. Notice the marble vanity in the walk-in closet, and the hidden jewelry storage behind the long mirror in the main room.
The Back Rental Unit | This permitted unit is a wonderful living space. It includes two full bathrooms, a living room, TV room, and sun-room/office that overlooks a beautiful view of the mountains. This unit is fully self-contained, including its own washer/dryer.
Four-car garage | Along with parking cars, there is ample room to tinker with do-it-yourself projects in the garage workshop!
Ample storage | Whether in the kitchen, throughout the house, in the “middle unit,” or in the walking space under the house, you’ll discover ample storage.
